My Project

April 21st, 2010.

This week in EDC 213 it was me and my classmate Tomesha did a project on Social Websites. For our project me and Tomesha chose FaceBook as our desmostration of Social Websites. What we did was talked about how Social Websites can be dangerous and the ways that we can make using them safer. The ways that Tomesha and I taught our classmates how to do this was first we created a false Facebook account impersonating a 14 year girl. We made it so that this profile had everything that a 14 year old should NOT have on her facebook profile. We put things like her adress, phone number, email adress, and other contact information is was public to the world.

After we did this, we showed our classmates how to make your profile safer. We used my facebook for this part and I showed our classmates how to group their friends into 3 categories. Friends, Family, Professional. After I showed them this I showed them how to set things like their albums and their contact information to where only their family members can see them. Or their friends and family only.

Lastily, Tomesha showed our classmates how to create an avatar. The point of this was the show our classmates that if they ever use a social website to teach their students, they should have their students use an avatar of themselves instead of using their own picture.

The whole point of our project was to show our classmates that their are ways to make their identity more private.

What I Learned

EDC 213- April 14th, 2010

What I learned today was yet another way in which I can engage my students in learning subjects like Math, Science, English, &+ History. My classmates Rachel and Dorothy talked about different Educational Online Games that my students can use. Rachel and Dorothy had the class go on different websites that had a wide variety of games that can teach students basic things like hand-eye coordination while teaching them how to read and do math.

Here are a few Lesson Plans that I came up with after learning about Educational Games:

Lesson 1: Students will be able to learn how to add and subtract while playing a game on
www.funbrain.com

Lesson 2: Students will be able to locate different countries on a Full Screen map using a website called www.sheppardsoftware.com.

Using these websites will help students have fun all the while educating them in different areas.

What I Learned

This is the post for April 7th, 2010-Armani and Erika's Project

Armani and Erika's project was about Google Earth. I never hard of Google Earth before they presented it to me. Google Earth is basically a tool in which you could use to see the earth in 3-D. It shows the earth as it is seen in space and gives you the oppurtunity to do things like look for different places on Earth. You can find places like your house, your school, and/or your country. There are many different things that can be done on Google Earth, these are just a few. You can also look for things like y0ur zodiac sign star.

Armani and Erika showed us how Google Earth worked and it gave me these following idea to use in a 3rd grade Science class:

Lesson Plan 1- Students will able to learn how Google Earth can help them in this Science class.
Lesson Plan 2- Students will be able to locate things like their homes, neighborhood police and fire stations.

These ideas will both introduce Google Earth students using hands-on activities and give them another way to learn where curtain things are on Earth.
