Scratch

Scratch is a program in which you create characters call sprites. You can use your character it can be anything you want to be a animal, a person, shapes, and forms. You control the character by using the movements on the left side. You can make the sprite jump, move, walk, turn, or talk. You have to put the movements into what looks like blocks and click on a green flag the sits on top of the sprite. You make the movements go on forever if you like but to stop it you have to click on the red flag that is located next to the green one.

In my opinion, I think this program is a great program to start with when teaching Robotics. In robotics you have to tell the robot exactly what to do in order for them to move, and in scratch that what it teaches. Even though, with Robotics it is a little bit more detailed, scratch is a great program to start off with. It gives the student an insight on what to expect when working with robots.

Lesson 1: Have students download the Scratch program, and have them learn how to make their sprite move.

Lesson 2: Teach students once they have the Scratch program understood, introduce the Robotics program

Online Collaboration

This presentation was about online colllaboration given by Barbara. What I got from her presentaton was that online collaboration gives teachers the opportunity to communicate with their students in a safe environment. One of the websites that she introduced to us was http://globaleducation.ning.com/events/event/listByDate?date=2010-04-29. In this website she showed us that you as the student and as the teacher can control the environment in which they can communicate with each other. Online Collaboration not only makes it easier for teachers to commincate with their students but it also teaches students about using techonologu safely. It gives students the opportunity to learn how to use technology safely.

Lesson 1: Have students set up a Global Education account and show them how to make their profile safer.

Lesson 2: Set up a dicussion on Global Education.

Virtual FieldTrips

I learned alot of things about virtual fieldtrip from my classmates Barbara and Ginette. What I got from their presentation was that virtual fieldtrips are more sufficient then taking the class on a real field trip. Virtual fieldtrips enable students to get sort of a glimpse of a place such as the zoo or the museum while giving them activities for them to do that help then with reading and writing, math and science. Virtual fieldtrips even give the students a sense of what to expect once they get to the place.

Lesson Plan 1: Use the Virtual Field Trip http://www.uen.org/utahlink/tours/tourFames.cgi?tour_id=14731 to teach students aout nouns and pronouns.

Lesson Plan 2: Use Virtual FieldTrip to teach students about zoo's and the wild life.

My Project

April 21st, 2010.

This week in EDC 213 it was me and my classmate Tomesha did a project on Social Websites. For our project me and Tomesha chose FaceBook as our desmostration of Social Websites. What we did was talked about how Social Websites can be dangerous and the ways that we can make using them safer. The ways that Tomesha and I taught our classmates how to do this was first we created a false Facebook account impersonating a 14 year girl. We made it so that this profile had everything that a 14 year old should NOT have on her facebook profile. We put things like her adress, phone number, email adress, and other contact information is was public to the world.

After we did this, we showed our classmates how to make your profile safer. We used my facebook for this part and I showed our classmates how to group their friends into 3 categories. Friends, Family, Professional. After I showed them this I showed them how to set things like their albums and their contact information to where only their family members can see them. Or their friends and family only.

Lastily, Tomesha showed our classmates how to create an avatar. The point of this was the show our classmates that if they ever use a social website to teach their students, they should have their students use an avatar of themselves instead of using their own picture.

The whole point of our project was to show our classmates that their are ways to make their identity more private.

What I Learned

EDC 213- April 14th, 2010

What I learned today was yet another way in which I can engage my students in learning subjects like Math, Science, English, &+ History. My classmates Rachel and Dorothy talked about different Educational Online Games that my students can use. Rachel and Dorothy had the class go on different websites that had a wide variety of games that can teach students basic things like hand-eye coordination while teaching them how to read and do math.

Here are a few Lesson Plans that I came up with after learning about Educational Games:

Lesson 1: Students will be able to learn how to add and subtract while playing a game on
www.funbrain.com

Lesson 2: Students will be able to locate different countries on a Full Screen map using a website called www.sheppardsoftware.com.

Using these websites will help students have fun all the while educating them in different areas.

What I Learned

This is the post for April 7th, 2010-Armani and Erika's Project

Armani and Erika's project was about Google Earth. I never hard of Google Earth before they presented it to me. Google Earth is basically a tool in which you could use to see the earth in 3-D. It shows the earth as it is seen in space and gives you the oppurtunity to do things like look for different places on Earth. You can find places like your house, your school, and/or your country. There are many different things that can be done on Google Earth, these are just a few. You can also look for things like y0ur zodiac sign star.

Armani and Erika showed us how Google Earth worked and it gave me these following idea to use in a 3rd grade Science class:

Lesson Plan 1- Students will able to learn how Google Earth can help them in this Science class.
Lesson Plan 2- Students will be able to locate things like their homes, neighborhood police and fire stations.

These ideas will both introduce Google Earth students using hands-on activities and give them another way to learn where curtain things are on Earth.
